Merry Christmas Quilted Contest!!

Merry Christmas everyone!  I am sure you are all as busy as I am, cooking, wrapping, cleaning!!  Now that my children are older it is much easier, it seems so much busier when they are little.
As promised here is a Christmas contest, you need to be a follower to participate.  Make sure that I can get in touch with you by e-mail in case you win.  My prize is a finished bag, I thought this might be nice for this time of year when everyone is so busy.  This bag is made from Bali Batiks and I used my pattern Bits and Bites.  There are long pockets on either side of the lining.  Good Luck!
Now what I would like you to do, is tell me your favorite gift - as a child!  This is a hard one for me, but I think it would have to be my Chatty Baby Doll.  Does anyone remember those?  She was the younger sister of Chatty Cathy.  You have until Jan 1 to add your comments, I will draw on Jan 2.  Good luck, and have a very Merry Christmas!

  2. I remember my Chatty Cathy doll too. My twin and I got them one Christmas. But my favorite had to be Thumbelina. You wound up a knob on her back and her head would roll around. A little eerie sounding now though. I sure did love that doll. Merry Christmas and thanks for the nice New Years Giveaway.

  3. Merry Christmas! My favorite gift as a child was a doll house. It came equipped with small plastic furniture and even a baby doll. It sat on a table so I was able to stand and play with it. It was the best!
PS - After 50+ years I still have it and it still brings back happy memories.

  4. My favorite gift was a Mary Poppins doll that came in a special blue floral bag. She had two dresses. One was a a simple blue/white stripe and the other was a wonderful white dress w/a matching bonnet that had a special tie/bow. Such a beautiful doll and memory!

  7. i was given my favorite present when my father came home home after WW2 ended. i had only seen him when i was an infant so i didn't know him. he brought me a round music box with pictures of children on the top and a little hand crank. the blue paint is all chipped and the picture on the top is all scribbled on and the crank is loose, but after all these years i still have it and when i turn the crank and hear the music i still see him as a young man, smiling.

  8. My favorite gift as a child was my acoustic guitar that I received when I was 8. My parents played a trick on me and had put a cheap plastic ukelele in the big guitar box and had hidden the real guitar. Everyone laughed when I opened the big box and saw that stupid ukelele. They then gave me the real guitar that had been hidden behind the tree the entire time.

  11. My favorite toy as a child is difficult to pick. One was a toy sewing machine that actually stitched. but the one that stands out the most in my memory is what I remember being called a "corking" kit. It's also called a Spool Knitter and you can seem a picture of it here http://www.allfreecrafts.com/kids/corker.shtml

  12. Difficult to answer, hard to think back. It was not fabric ;-) I think it must have been a barbie doll.
I got one and more later on.

  15. My favorite gift was a Madame Alexander Baby doll. She would say "Mama" when you flipped her over. My step-father gave it away to a poor little girl in Mexico when I was 9 years old. When we went to go and visit them, I saw that the family had nothing. So I didn't mind that he had given it to the little girl. When I was an adult, my mother had bought me another doll just like her for Christmas, and to this day I still have her. Funny how we love the things from our childhood.

  16. It's hard to pick a favorite. My mother worked hard getting ready for Christmas and every year, we had a wonderful holiday. I think my favorite was a Thumbelina doll, she was so cuddly and lifelike! Mom knit a bunting bag for her and I still have it. Happy New Year !

  17. What a gorgeous bag! I got a 'bride doll' one year~ she was about 18 inches tall and dressed in a wedding dress. My Mom made some other clothes for her and I just loved playing with her. Happy new Year!

  18. I had a Chatty Cathy too! Then she went to live with someone else and my Mom was so upset with me! My favorite toy I ever received had to be my Barbie "Stacy". That was her real name and she was the first red haired Barbie with bendable legs! I loved her because she looked just like me and I had such a time being teased about my red hair when I was young! Love the bag!

  20. My favorite gift as a child was a doll house that my dad built for me. And the most fun was making and finding furnishings for the rooms.

  21. I would have to say my roller skates. I skated to and from school every day that there was no snow and wore my key on a string around my neck. A very happy birthday to you and may the new year bring you joy and peace.

  22. I loved my Barbies when I was a girl- I had a pretty nice collection that included a Skipper doll. They were pretty fun to play with - I also had a pretty good imagination and made dollhouses out of boxes and cut outs from Catalogues. My grandmother's garbage dump was a treasure trove when we went to the farm. We would go and bring home a large pile of old spice and Avon bottles for our pretend store. It sounds pretty boring compared to all the technology that exists now but it kept us pretty entertained.
Happy Birthday and Happy New Year!
    Regards,
    Anna

  24. My favorite toy was a mechanical horse. I always asked for a horse for Christmas and Santa always responded with one, just not the real one I wanted. I think this was my last horse. I was probably around 12, and yes I knew about Santa Claus, but there was a horse about 12 inches tall that you wound up with a key and it would bend in the middle and move across the floor. I figured it was for my much younger brother but Mom said Santa had left it for me. I loved that horse. I played with it so much I plain wore it out. I've never seen anything like it since.

Happy Birthday! The bag is beautiful and I would love a chance in the drawing.
My favorite Christmas present was a cowboy outfit it was blue/black with all the white fringe. I was a Tomboy growing up and only had brothers to play with.

  30. My favorite toy as a child [after my storybook dolls... anyone remember those?] was a wonderful Red Scooter! I used to ride that everywhere -- this was the "pre-cursor" to what is now called Skateboard.

  31. Happy birthday!
I am in my 50's but still have several childhood toys. Including my beloved donks. Donkey is a donkey on wheels, with a handle at the back. He was ridden, by me and all my dolls, as well as my brother. He pulled carts, he was a step for reaching the lightswitch and he was the perfect friend to weep into. He is now motheaten looking and bedraggled, but he is still my donks. And outlasted my childrens equivalent dog on wheels!

  33. When I was 7 or 8, I received a doll house that my Grandfather made by hand, it was only many years later (and of course it was gone by then)that I realized how much work and love had gone into it.

  34. Beautiful bag!! My favorite toys were my barbie dolls and clothes. I do not remember having a lot of toys and with two brothers I think we had lots of hot wheels and cars. My barbies were my pride and joy and I had them stored in a cardboard box and played with them every day. One day I was playing with them outside and left them on the garbage stoop by the back door when my mom called me inside. In the short time I was inside the house, the garbage men came and my cardboard box with all my treasures was picked up with the garbage. Big deal for a little girl to lose her treasures. Funny how some memories can feel just as real today as they did 45 years ago.
