Snappy Slippers & Travel Case Tutorial - Part 1

I have had a lot of requests for tutorials for the Snappy Slippers, so here is the first part.  This seems to be were lots of people have an issue.  As with all patterns, if you read through the pattern first it will answer most of your questions.
When working on any foundation, and in particularly the foam, it will shrink up on you, so cut
it a little larger then your template.  Look at your pattern it will tell you how much larger you need
to cut it.  For those looking for the pattern, try your local quilt shop and if you are not near one you can buy it here https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/coolcatsandquilts?ref=hdr_shop_menu

Lay your first strip down on the drawn line.  Now follow Step 2 in your pattern.

Follow the instructions in the pattern to finish the 4 tops.  When you have all tops completely covered, you can turn in over to the back and trim around the edges even with the foundation.  This will make it easier to see when you use the freezer paper template to cut out the shapes.  Follow Step 3 in the pattern. If you are doing the decorative stitching, do so now.  I love to do some decorative stitching on them, gives you a chance to use all of those stitches you never touch!

Now follow Step 5.  If you have never heard of under stitching before, it is a  way to make the seam lay flatter, and will help you turn it under to press and then topstitch.

    1. Would be nice for you to supply the link vs. just comment to look for it.

    2. Your patterns are great and I can understand that like a lot of artists, you are only interested in creating but you must work on your customer relation skills as well as your teaching skills unless you want your business go down the drain. Maybe you could employ someone to draw up proper instructions and/or do a video. I for one ,will not buy another pattern from you because of lack of clear instructions.

  5. Still struggling. Was hoping for a live tutorial to walk me through cutting the pieces and putting the slippers together. I am having trouble following the pattern. :-(

  6. Oh my goodness ... I bought these patterns a year and a half ago, planning to make them for my daughter and her children ... here it is Christmas Eve, and I'm finally beginning to read through the pattern. I have the fabric, and bosal foam for the foundation, and Slipper Grippers for the sole... Wish me luck? I have about six hours to work...

  7. Neither your pattern or your tutorial tell me what to sew ... Just the strips together in wedge shapes or the strips together on top and through the foundation piece at the same time. Do I just let the sewn together strips float on top of the foundation?

    1. You must have an older pattern, I did change it to say sew, for those people that did not realize that you should sew the strips together.

  8. Another awful pattern, very unclear, extremely difficult to figure out the pieces, and I"m an advanced quilter. :-(( You'd think for the price of the pattern, you'd get something usable...

  9. I have the pattern, and it is working out well; however...I took a paper-piecing class a year ago, and so I am not thrown off by working with the wedges. I think many of the negative comments are not necessary. Relax, take a deep breath, look at the beautiful pattern pictures, and it will come : ). I am making slippers for Christmas, so no time pressure.

  11. I am glad (and sad) to see I am not the only one having trouble with those slippers. The instructions are very poor. The pattern was expensive, I think we could expect better instructions.

  12. Yes, pattern is fine & successful. If you need further help she has Part 1 & 2 in her blog in June 2014. But if you have never paper pieced before, read up on it. I am going on to make her cute pajama cat bags & do a matching quilt. Thanks, I love you patterns they are adorable & fun to make!

  19. Omg you have to be einstein to understand the snappy slipper pattern. And to date I cannot for the life of me find a tutorial on how to complete. I won't ge buying any more patterns from you unless you can manage clear instructions
